The worst doctor I've ever had the misfortune of knowing. He repeatedly tried to shove a bipolar diagnosis down my throat (even though I had several doctors who said otherwise) and refused to try medication not approved for my age range, meaning after I tried all of my options he refused to do anything. Over all he was completely unprofessional (he would frequently not have shoes on, yell at my mother, and couldn't remember who I was stating he "had over 1000 patients [he] can't remember them all", he also frequently ran several hours behind schedule). After switching to a competent doctor I was immediately started on an SNRI and have recovered completely.
I’ve been a patient with Spectrum Health for over 5 years and see Dr. Robert Herman of the Arnold office. I want start off by saying STAY AWAY from him!!! If you don’t want a different experience every time you see a doctor DO NOT see this guy!! I wish I could go into detail but this a review plus I don’t want this to be used against me but honestly it’s worth it if I help someone from having the awful experience I just had with him. He is EXTREMELY rude and from what I’ve read and seen his office treats his peers very poorly as well. The guy acts like his $hit doesn’t stink and one day could be telling you a joke and the next accuse you of selling your medication because of an old past due balance and me saying money has been tight with Christmas and switching jobs now waiting on my first check to deposit. I couldn’t believe this and started recording the rest of our session. Wish I could attach so you could hear the BS that was coming out of his mouth. You DO NOT accuse someone of that unless you know for fact and if so stop seeing the patient flat out. He obviously doesn’t have any evidence of that or he would have said I cant see you, instead he just wants more money cuz I went from him charging my insurance 300 bucks to me doing self pay which is only 80 for the same visit!! Now i understand why he was trying to cause problems because he is someone who only cares about money and not his patients. Check him out and read other reviews on him and you’ll get the picture of how much he cares about his patients...
Further, based on his reliance on this website I cannot reliably trust his prescribing methods and apparent lack of knowledge on the medication that he prescribes. His response to me asking him questions specific to my case was that he had a patient roll of 1800 patients and he lacked the ability to remember or treat each patient with individual recommendations, this is both astounding in his blatant disregard to be responsibility of his patients and unfortunately breaks his Hippocratic oath as I would hope you know a doctor of mental health must be aware of the medications that he prescribes, when it comes to the dose and specifics of a patients history, Dr. Herman does not seem to understand or refuses to accept his responsibility in prescribing medication.
I would like to state for the record that Dr. Herman is quite possibly the most irresponsible doctor that I have ever worked with. Dr. Herman lacks both the bedside manner that comes with working with mental health, and even more worrisome is his lack of interest in his patients and his inability to bear responsibility of the medications that he prescribes, as a patient when I asked simple questions about my medication, his response was reliably to refer to a website which presents patients with the concept that not taking your medication at your doctor prescribed dose is a good idea. Many times after browsing the website I found links that the doctor who wrote the website that where from unsubstantiated non-medically researched articles.
